Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma and SkinPen

Microneedling has become the most popular procedure for skin rejuvenation.  This procedure is painless when performed after the application of numbing cream.  The automatic Microneedling SkinPen is used to pass tiny needles deep into the epidermis and dermis of the skin.  This is a type of collagen induction therapy, stimulating the body’s natural healing response and promoting production of youthful type I collagen to restore the glow of your skin, and reduce discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles, and improve acne scarring.

We use SkinPen, which is the only FDA approved microneedling device on the market.  At Faces Medspa, you can be assured that you are getting the highest quality, safest microneedling treatment available.

With the addition of Selphyl “liquid gold” platelet rich fibrin (PRF), the treatment is elevated to the next level.  PRF is the next generation of PRP or platelet rich plasma products.  Blood is collected from the patient and processed in our lab during the facial numbing process.  PRF is then extracted and applied to the surface of the skin during the microneedling treatments.  The tiny needles drive the PRF into the channels of the skin, where it releases a sustained concentration of growth factors over 7 days.  This further stimulates the body’s collagen production, improving skin tone, texture, pigmentation, and overall radiance.

With the gold roller, patients can perform home maintenance treatments.  The gold roller with ultra-fine needles is used to create small channels within the skin. This not only enhances penetration of cosmeceutical products, but also stimuates collagen and elastin production within the skin, stimulating rebuilding and healing structural improvements to the skin.

How much does the procedure cost?

Please call our office at 563-588-0506 for pricing information.  The treatment can be performed with our without PRP.

How long does the procedure take?

A patient may expect to spend an hour and a half with the aesthetician.  The first half hour or more is spent numbing the skin with cream, preparing for treatment.  The treatment itself may take another 30 minutes, after which the postcare is performed

What do I need to do to prepare for the procedure?

Protection from the sun is important not only for overall skin health, but also for preparng your skin for microneedling.  You should let your provider know if you have any active acne, cold sores, or skin infections as we may need to rescuedule to prevent problems associated with the procedure.

Is the treatment painful?

No!  Numbing cream is applied ahead of the procedure, and most patients feel little to no discomfort.

What can I expect afterwards?

At the conclusion of the procedure, there may be areas of pinpoint bleeding within the skin.  This fades and the skin becomes pink.  The pink coloration may last through the next day, along with some flaking.

Does the procedure need repeated?

“Collagen induction therapy” means that the procedure turns on the body’s natural collagen production process.  This typically takes about a month after the treatment to start happening, and at that time we typically recommend repeating a treatment.  At least 3 treatments are usually necessary to see improvements, but the skin continues to show improvement as far out as six months after the last procedure.  Many patients choose to return a couple of times per year for a maintenance treatment.

What should I put on my skin afterwards?

For the first 24 hours, the microchannels remain open in the skin.  If you choose to use PRP for your procedure, we often send you home with a little extra prp to apply after the procedure.  You can also use hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin, which is supplied with treatment.  You should refrain from using any makeup for 24 hours after the procedure, and may require more moisturizer than normal.
